30 YEARS OF INFORMATION SCIENCE - A SUCCESS STORY!

Abstract

Information science has made a triumphal march around the world in the last 30 years. Today it is the most important scientific discipline and influences our world like no other. However, most of this development took place outside the universities. The keynote by Wolf Rauch deals with the question of what this development means for science and where in future a place for information science at universities could be.

Biography

Prof. Dr. Wolf Rauch is full professor at the Institute of Information Science and Information Systems at Karl-Franzens-University Graz since 1987. After a PhD in Vienna he worked for several years with a research institute in Frankfurt/Main (GID) and at the Universities in Regensburg, Saarbrücken, Berlin and Klagenfurt. He was Dean and Rector at Karl-Franzens-University Graz and president of Austrias Rectors Conference in 1999. Prof. Rauch for many years cooperates in national and international scientific projects with FOI and was awarded "Friend of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics" in 2009.
