Ozan Tonguz, Ph.D., (Full Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Founder and CEO of Virtual Traffic Lights, LLC, and Co-Founder, CEO of Reflex AI) is a pioneer in vehicular communications, V2X, wireless communications, and biologically inspired design.
His work has been funded by several agencies including NSF, DARPA, US DoT, ABB, Harris RF Communications, Intel, General Motors (for 14 years), Texas Instruments, NeuroKinetics, and the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. He teaches graduate level Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses at CMU and his current research is focused on AI and Machine Learning (ML), wireless communications, V2V and V2X communications, Computer Vision, and Autonomous Driving. Prof. Tonguz co-founded and serves as the CEO of VTL, a successful startup spun out of CMU. Traffic safety and traffic management solutions developed by VTL (with close to 30 patents by Tonguz) have been demonstrated at the King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and will be deployed in Salt Lake City, UT, in collaboration with the Utah DoT and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prof. Tonguz frequently serves as a technical consultant for many companies and funding agencies, and as an expert witness for prestigious law firms in the US, Europe, and Asia. In addition to his issued US patents, he is the author or co-author of more than 300 technical papers in the IEEE and ACM journals and conferences.
