This closed research workshop is organized within the Startup.score project and is intended exclusively for invited experts participating in the research activities. The workshop will begin with presentations of the project's ongoing scientific research and two doctoral research proposals. These presentations will be followed by an interactive research session focused on collecting expert input and validating research concepts. The presented studies explore the relationship between the support programmes offered by startup support organizations—such as incubators, accelerators, technology parks, and similar institutions—and the success of startup companies. Participants include experienced startup development professionals, managers of entrepreneurial support organizations, technology scouts, and other experts with extensive knowledge of startup ecosystems.
The workshop is organized by the Laboratory for Learning Analytics (LA Lab https://lalab.foi.hr/) at the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in collaboration with the project teams of TRUELA and SAILeR.
The aim of the workshop is to provide a platform for discussion of researchers in learning analytics, with a particular focus on identifying learning patterns, modelling and analysing learning paths, and applying data-driven and AI-supported methods to educational datasets (e.g. LMS log data).
The workshop is research-oriented and designed to actively involve researchers, including doctoral students.
This dissemination event will present the latest developments, achievements, and future activities of the Centre for Pre-Incubation in Smart Industry in Varaždin. Participants will gain an overview of the Centre's current initiatives, opportunities for collaboration, and its role in supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and knowledge transfer.
The meeting will focus on the application of the fAIth platform in the banking sector, with particular emphasis on fairness, explainability, and privacy in AI systems. The project aims to develop the first platform capable of monitoring fairness, explainability, and the impact of personal data in real time, even for “black-box” AI models, without access to the training data. The aim of the meeting is to review the work and results achieved so far, discuss current challenges, and define the next steps and directions for further project activities.
Today's higher education institutions operate in increasingly dynamic and uncertain environments, requiring leaders and educators to make informed decisions while adapting quickly to changing circumstances. This interactive workshop introduces participants to the principles of agile decision-making and agile management in higher education. Following a concise theoretical introduction, participants will engage in a series of collaborative, hands-on activities designed to demonstrate how agile approaches can improve decision quality, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving under uncertainty. Within the workshop, decision-making biases such as the status quo, the sunk-cost trap, and the anchoring trap will be discussed. Examples of strategic planning and decision-making regarding the application of AI in higher education will also be analyzed. The workshop will further emphasize decision-making styles, particularly the situational style and determine the dominant decision-making style for each participant. The workshop concludes with the analysis of real-world higher education case studies, encouraging participants to reflect on how agile thinking can be applied within their own institutions to support innovation, organizational resilience, and continuous improvement.

In 2005, the world's first smart factory was founded and then built in Kaiserslautern, Germany, as a PPP (public-private partnership). In close cooperation between industry, academia, and politics, a test bed for smart factory technologies under the name smartfactory-KL was set up, which then became a blueprint for similar activities worldwide. The early work ultimately led to the term Industry 4.0 in 2011. This marked the beginning of the triumphant advance of Industry 4.0 in all industrialized countries around the world. Twenty years have passed since then, so it is appropriate to look ahead.
The first decade was coined by smart technologies which enabled machines to be connected to worldwide networks. Especially, the necessary standards were chosen or new defined. The second decade will be coined by the importance of data. With all machines being connected we have access to huge amounts of data worldwide. But to turn these data into value we have to define again standards on the structures and semantics. Today, driven by Germany´s GAIA-X its sub-standards like Catena-X or Manufacturing-X will offer the platform to install worldwide data eco systems. We are moving forward quickly and such eco systems in the field of manufacturing are close to application. But the current geopolitical situation may become a breakshoe for success because more and more countries limit data exchange over borders. So we face many future challenges before we look for “the next big thing”.

Current dominant artificial intelligence, powered by neural network-based foundation models, presents a profound challenge to traditional conceptions of human uniqueness— particularly in intelligence and creativity. This keynote argues that biological and artificial neural networks constitute two complex connectionist systems that share deep analogies—in architecture, learning dynamics, and emergent behavior—while also exhibiting fundamental differences in substrate, embodiment, and developmental trajectory. Drawing on neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and connectionist theory, we examine how biological creativity emerges from the dynamic interplay between the Default Mode Network and the Executive Control Network—a dual-process architecture of spontaneous ideation and deliberate evaluation—and trace compelling structural and functional parallels with artificial neural network architectures. Crucially, we are witnessing a paradigm shift: AI is escaping the era of learning exclusively from human-generated data and entering an era of experience. Reinforcement learning techniques are enabling AI systems to explore their own paths in reasoning, creativity, and scientific discovery—moving from small-c creativity toward domain-level Big C achievements. This shift is compounded by recursive self-improvement: AI systems that optimize their own architectures and capabilities, raising fundamental questions about the trajectory, controllability, and societal consequences of intelligence that improves itself at accelerating rates. Meanwhile, the gap between the exponential evolution of AI and its real impact on society is widening. This asymmetry creates extraordinary opportunities but also an urgent imperative: AI literacy is becoming compulsory. Without it, society risks losing its ability to make informed collective decisions about a technology that will reshape every domain of human activity. Understanding both forms of intelligence—their mechanisms, their parallels, their creative potential, and their limitations—is not an academic exercise. It is an existential imperative for ensuring that the next wave of intelligent systems serves human dignity, creativity, and collective progress.
